Albert Park House 1

Brief:

We were asked to replan the existing house and provide a design to remove the previous single storey rear extension and add a new 2 two storey extension behind the single storey period home.

Design Constraints:

The main constraints to the design was the heritage overlay to the site and existing boundary conditions for the inner urban context.

We had to strike a balance to create usable private open space at the rear and accommodate our clients brief.

Design Resolution:

The new rear two storey extension was constructed to the southern boundary to make use of north sun and create a north facing back garden. The internal spaces consisted of an open plan kitchen living dining area facing out onto rear yard and the future swimming pool.  The new works sat below a pitched roof to better assist in the heritage set back requirements as well as to respond to the surrounding neighbours. The new first floor was zoned for the children with bedrooms, a bathroom and seperate toilet and rumpus room with a bridge link access way to a new attic room in the old house. the design also allowed for a small split level first floor terrace with city views.
